| | | Unidentified fungus Could this be Russula Olivacea. I know it can be this terracotta colour when young as well as olive or purple. |

| | | Re: Unidentified fungus I'm not sure of the amount of brown/terracotta coloured Russula, but I'm sure you're going to need much more information about this specimen to get close to an ID for this ridiculously difficult genus. |

| | | Re: Unidentified fungus They do seem to be difficult as the colours vary so much even within an individual species. Unfortunately this is the only photo I took of this one. There were so many fungi about yesterday that I think my partner got fed up waiting for me!! |

I'm tempted to say - partly (but not totally) sarcastically - then don't spend too much time on Russulas then

| | | Re: Unidentified fungus But they are all new to me. I just take a photo if I like the colour, shape etc. Until I found out what they are I don't know they are common. So as you are more of an expert "please don't take the michael" or I'll never learn! |

So as you are more of an expert "please don't take the michael" or I'll never learn! | no no no! the comment was not aimed at you at all, nor as to whether Russulas are common or not . . . . . it was just a reference to the fact that it is a large and difficult genus and one can spend a lot of time getting nowhere
I once heard the phrase "Russulas? stomp on em all - let God sort them out!" and that was from a real expert
looking back I can see how the post could be mis-read . . . . no michael-extraction was intended - honest!
friends?

| | | Re: Unidentified fungus Ok, ta. I do try to identify the fungi myself. But, as you can tell, not very successfully. I guess sometimes I'll just have to accept "it's a russula" and if I can get to the stage of identifying the family I'm getting somewhere! |

It takes a while to get an idea for the general look of a species but after a bit of field experience, I promise you'll be absolutely fine | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
