| | | Are these Panaeolus sp.? Woodchester Park, Gloucs. 4th October. In grass beside path but close to (mostly) deciduous trees.
I thought I'd done quite well in managing to ID several species found on our walk by spending hours studying my books (both of them!), Roger's Mushrooms on line, the WAB Gallery and Bioimages but these I'm stuck on.
The closest I can get is that they may well be Panaeolus sp. because of the mottly gills. Am I on the wrong tack entirely and can anyone please help with some ideas?
Thanks!
PS I'm still slowly wading through the photos I took on Skye a couple of weeks ago and no doubt some of those will appear on here for help in due course. 'Tisn't easy, photographing fungi up near the Old Man of Storr in a howling gale and freezing cold with low cloud and rain and when your upturned fungus is liable to blow away (along with your woolly hat and thermal gloves) before you can take the photo!

| | | Re: Are these Panaeolus sp.? hi
I would lean more towards these being a Psathyrella; it's difficult to see the 'mottling' you mention (though you obviously got a better view) but I would expect Panaeolus gills to look darker/more contrasty
best
Chris

| | | Re: Are these Panaeolus sp.? Ah, thanks Chris. No, the best view I had was in the photo too! Psathyrella would explain the more pointy cap too, wouldn't it, as Panaeolus tend to be more rounded... ? I think.
