| | | Re: can anyone help with this fungi please They have a "Collybia" like look to me. I can't see if the gills are free, and although the gills look pale yellow in the second photo, they definitely look white-ish in the first.
My suggestion would be along the lines of Buttercap - Collybia butyracea.
Regards,
Mike. |

| | | Re: can anyone help with this fungi please Hi Nigel,
The gills look quite a bit lighter than caps/stipes on the photos, but if they are really similar in colour, then I can't suggest what they might be.
One for the experts I think!

i have been searching through melanoleuca pictures on the web and am inclined to think mine might be melanoleuca cognata var. cognata (photo also in Fungi of Switzerland Vol. 3)
i shall see if i can get something conclusive microscopically either on my own or with help from people more used to looking through a microscope
thanks again
nigel
ps i really like the site and no doubt will post regularly through the season |

Neil.
PS. I think it is called Rugosomyces chrysenteron these days.

nigel | If the caps range from 2-4 cm this is not Melanoleuca cognata as this is a much larger fungus, this is more likely to be Gymnopus ocior - syn. Collybia ocior.
