| | | Can anybody help to identify this mushroom?
Can anyone give a clue on this? It was found on 2 October in the Brecklands (Suffolk - Norfolk border) in a mixed conifer - deciduous wood. Could it be Lactarius or Pholiota? |

it does contain a lot of hints; Lactarius would have milk - this doesn't seem to have Pholiota would have a brown spore print - you haven't done one, but those pure white gills would suggest this doesn't have coloured spores
in the absence of any other info. I would suggest Clitocybe sp. (but that is only a suggestion)
(pause for Nick C. to wade in with Melanoleuca . . . . . )
cheers
Chris

| | | Re: Can anybody help to identify this mushroom? Chris: Thanks for the tip - I'll certainly use the identification check list more in the future.
Following your suggestion, I would go for Clitocybe gibba (Comon funnel-cap) becase of the strikingly pure white gills. Melanoleuca doesn't seem to fit that criterion. |
