| | Powdercap? Hi all,
I am guessing at Earthy Powdercap for this (Cystoderma amianthinum), but on looking more closely, it is so granular on the cap and coloured more strongly reddy that C. granulosum would be right (if it is Cystoderma!). The first shot shows granular cap most easily seen on the back, slugged, ones.
On mosses, acidic soil near mixed but mainly pine woodland on the moors.
Gills creamy/ruddy, stipe clearly marked with scales, no ring left.
No outstanding smell, but it was bucketing down, size about 1'' across cap.
Grateful for any help, ta.
Cheers

| | | Re: Powdercap? It is likely to be Cystoderma jasonis. I've been finding a lot in the coniferous woodland in the last week or so. The shot of the cap #4 in the following link is Cystoderma jasonis Some pretty fungi
Also I found one near the pine woods at Dovestones with the YNU foray the other week. They are darker than C amianthinum, cap and gills, and stem and the stem can be a bit purplish above the 'ring' zone.
They have very distinctive cells in the cap called arthroconidia, small pillow shaped things.

| | | Re: Powdercap? Thanks Melanie, I wondered about jasonis and it seems right without going to microscopy.
You'll be pleased to know this was Dovestones too - and I got very wet!
Cheers

Ken | At this very moment it is as if were in a washing machine - absolutely torrential. I think we might get a flush of aquatic fungi soon ....
