Help with identification appreciated:

Bruce | Hi Bruce
I would suggest Mycena adscendens given the familiar 'disc' at the base of the stem. Was the cap surface 'frosty'?

John | agreed - you can see minute granules around the cap edge - stem cystidia fit as well
cool image too

the pic looks a bit "sharpened" in a software prog to me. May I suggest Marasmius sp. possibly M. rotula? Because of the interspaced cap edge gills?

Jon | A little bit small for Marasmius Jon and certainly a different stipe.

M rotula has a distinct collar where the gills meet the stipe. Mycena adscendens has just a pseudocollar. The former has a smooth stem which is white at the top and then gets darker towards the base the latter has a hairy white stem.
Mycena adscendens gets my vote.

Jon - The pic is a 4 frame focus-stack using Zerene Stacker - this process can sometimes produce a "prickly" looking result when the originals are contrasty. I've checked back to the originals and this stack is fairly accurate.
Chris and John - Here's a couple more pics showing a part of the cap (a 5 frame focus-stack this time) as you can see it is frosty:
