Another fungus that was in abundance where we were hiking in Scotland was Chanterelle. Literally hundreds of the beggars (compared with the 5 I found a couple of weeks back). We were in beech woods, moss on sloping ground... Ideal location. All the books seem to claim they smell of apricots but personally I thought they smell of plasticine... perhaps there is something wrong with my nose

In my experience (not much as I've only ever found a few) the apricot smell is very faint and needs to be concentrated in a container to get it. Even then for me it took some imagination.

Ah, will have to try that if we find another batch... Personally I can't stand apricots
