| | | Help with ID please - Russula? Found growing under pine.
Cap about 5cm across. Didn't small/taste much of anything.
I think it could be Humpback Brittlegill (Russula caerulea)
Thanks, JohnB |

Anybody able to give me a bit help as to genus/species?

Possibly Russula caerulea but could be one of several more Russula. I've been caught out very often with Russula.
Even knowing the taste, smell, tree, 'peelability', reaction with FeSO4, Ammonia etc you may still need to resort to microscopy
If you think this is bad, look at the reaction to my 'simple cortinarius for ID' thread I've already spent 4 hours on it and only reached the sub level of Telamonia. Even then I had to be reminded that the scaly pileus gives it away!

John | Thanks John - you are using that dreaded 'm' word again - microscopy.
