| | | Psathyrella??? Hello i was wondering if i could get some opinions on this fungus.
I was clearing willow saplings out of a reedbed yesterday near newark and amongst the reeds growing from the ground were lots of mushrooms. I dont know whether they were growing with the willow or the reeds or just taking advantage of the conditions down there.
There were a lot of them, which when young were pale brown/cream slightly darker in the middle. as they got older they opened up a bit more and became more uniform in colour, before the final stage of dark brown/black specimens, pretty much flat in shape.
The photos unfortunately do not tell much but i'll describe - pale gills discoloured with black spores (why i thought Psathyrella), though these darkened with age, pale stipe especially when young, and the cap and stipe had some wooly texture to it, although this declined with age - sort of felt velvety. Smelled earthy!
i should have got a shot of the young and old specimens but i guess we were a little busy getting the job done (or i could have just forgot!!)
if anyone knows then i'd be most grateful!!!
