| | | your opinions on 5 fungi please Hi I've realy tried hard today to identify these but, as usual i'm a little unsure.after you have a laugh can you please confirm my id's.
red cracking bolete? displays all the signs. blue staining when cut. underside classic bolete. red stem. BUT the cap top is a dark shiny tan colour. not the dry velvety texture i am used to.
Common puffball? problem is it is a peach colour not pure white and growing on an old tree stump not in grass.
porcelain fungus? found growing on a dead branch on the ground in grassland under a verry old and large oak.
shaggy inkcap? not a good example. bit bothered about the lack of curly bits (a technical term) on the cap.
cauliflower fungi?? this was huge. two clumps 1 and a half feet tall and a foot across. on a dead tree stump in an oak forest covered in brambles. my initial thought was cauliflower fungi but it is dark brown/black not white each lobe is fan or oak leaf in shape. It is like a multi tiered bracket fungi in habit. the only other idea was turkeys tail but looks nothing like any other one that ive seen.
As usual all help gratefully appreciated. regards. tn.

the top one has a slimy cap and a veil - I'd say Suillus luteus (EDIT - though the spores shouldn't be bluing )
second is Lycoperdon pyriforme Oudemansiella mucida - correct
your shaggy ink-cap is a stinkhorn - Phallus impudicus
I'm not the greatest on brackets, but I would say Grifola frondosa - nothing like Sparassis I'm afraid
cheers
Chris

Ken | you are (of course) quite correct Ken
I was misinterpreting the right hand f-body as being an underside - no pores visible, therefore covered by a veil . . . . .
derrrrrh! (I did have second thoughts, mind . . . .)
