| | | id please - could this be a slate bolete ?
It's been exceedingly dry here for nearly a fortnight, so I was surprised to find this today - there's virtually nothing else out there. We need rain (guess that's not what a lot of people would be wishing for), but in the meantime, please could someone tell me how wrong I am ??

| | | Re: id please - could this be a slate bolete ? It is a Leccinum, that's for sure. The cut section, which looks very freshly cut, shows some pink staining near the cap. What colour did this change to over time? Did it go violoaceous black fairly rapidly or just greyish over a few hours? I notice you said on the photos that the stem stains blue. Was that blue-green at the base of the stipe? Also what tree/s was it growing near?

In answer to your questions - it was under mixed broad-leaf (chestnut/oak/plus/plus).
When I first cut it, it bruised nearer the top of the stem - the colouration spread down the sides afterwards. Definitely a dark blue.
