| | | Amanita citrina/False Deathcap? Found this this fellow in our local woods in Gateshead (mixed but primarily silverbirch and oak). I believe it to be a young False Deathcap.
In situ
And sliced (4 inch blade on knife) |

| | | Re: Amanita citrina/False Deathcap? I don't see that there's enough information in the photograph to make an ID on this. The cap is overexposed (though you're excused as I read about your photography knowledge in the other thread ) and there's nothing here to tell us that it's A. citrina (and at that colour it'd be the white variation A. citrina var. alba) To be perfectly honest, there's nothing in those images that would rule out A. virosa IMO. But I wouldn't hold out in hope of getting a certain ID for this one, sorry! |

| | | Re: Amanita citrina/False Deathcap? No need to apologise, Nick. I greatly appreciate your input . I was having a bad day photography wise that day as we were foraging for elder berries, sloes and crab apples. The girlfriend kept grumbling at me to keep up instead of photographing everything.
The cap of this fellow did have a pale "sickly green" green hue which I unfortunately failed to capture. But I will be trying harder in future to get better pics and take more notes
Worse part of that day was treading on the remains of a giant puffball because I was too busy looking up into an elder... |

| | | Re: Amanita citrina/False Deathcap? There were a couple of giant puffballs around this solitary elder in amongst nettles. I expect I'll be keeping a close eye on that spot next year | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
