Right then I think I need educating and I think I've come to the right place.
Now please don't think me ignorant but just what is it with Fungi et al?
Am I missing something?
Before everyone starts typing like mad to chastise this heathen, I'm sure there are more than enough people out there that can possibly give me an emotive, articulated or even a poetic definition of why they are so passionate about this subject.
This has been in my head for some time now, any takers?

Ok Lee, maybe a question first rather than any sort of an answer.....

Have you ever looked closely at or photographed fungi and/or lichen yourself - if not maybe have a go as you might start to find an answer to your question that way!

Jenny that's too easy but yes I was only having a 'ganders' at something orange and mushroom like this morning whilst walking along the river, perhaps I'll go back and take another longer look.

I honestly don;'t know but from being a child fungi have fascinated me I just don't know what it is but I can't pass one without wondering what it is and will it make a good photograph

I think you could ask your question about other things than fungi. Insects, birds, flowers,trees and of course cars, motorbikes, stamps and practically all hobbies and interests. Nobody knows how it happens, but we are all delighted that it does! I hope you will find something to absorb your interest in the same way!
