| | | SBJs There were several dozen of these in grassland pasture. All quite dry, very tough stipe. Sizes from 20-50mm high, 5-10mm across.
Any Ideas?

I reckon you are close there. I've got them soaking in a little cold water to see if they perk up a bit.

almost doubled in size | this may seem a rude question (it isn't meant to be!) but did you realise that this fungus is one of a group - the Marasmiaceae that can revive on moistening? your strategy was perfect  and that this is a procedure that mostly doesn't work this well
try it with an old dry Mycena

I saw it somewhere whilst browsing that they have this property so I though I would give it a go. Worked well as you saw. Although if I was to use them for something beginning with "E" they may be a little less in flavour. I may nip out to gather some more in the morning  for a "scientific" study use with a little beef or chicken
