Help needed in identifying fungus please!
This fungus is in a garden in Surrey. We have never seen it before. Does anyone have any ideas what it might be?

It's one of the Geastrum family known as Earthstars. Possibly triplex

Many thanks for that. My specimens look a bit more ragged than some of the pictures I've now managed to find but you certainly know your stuff! Are they fairly common, I've never seen any before, and I assume they're inedible?

Pretty certain your fungi is Collared Earthstar - Geastrum triplex.
