| | | Amanita ???
Is this an Amanita ??
It is about 3 inches tall, stipe is white, gills crowded and white, no ring on stipe though.
Growing in deciduous woodland, Beech, Oak, Birch, Hornbeam nearby.
Any help would be appreciated, at first I thought of Panthercap, but no ring on stipe?
Looks not much like Amanita rubescens taken a few years ago.

| | | Re: Amanita ??? Given habitat and cap i would go with Amanita Pantherina but that is not a definite because i see no ring and can not see the base of the mushroom. |

| | | Re: Amanita ??? I would suspect section Amanitopsis - but can't be certain of the absence of a ring . . . A. submembranacea perhaps?

Nick | The first is definitely Amanita pantherina with the annulus having disappeared. The annulus isn't very long lasting on this species, its quite fragile and fugacious in my experience unlike with the blusher and spissa/excelsa. The pure white velar patches and the margin striations are typical of this species. Habitat is also good.

Went back today and there were two other young fungi, this one undamaged, showing the ring and the volval base. |
