| | fibrecap Inocybe help! Hello all,
this small (1'' cap width) tinker was found in Northumberland last week, growing on an old very rotten beech log, covered in moss and so probably in soil/humus.
Its not one I know at all, and a fibrecap is the closest, Inocybe laguninosa, woolly fibrecap or maybe torn fibrecap I. lacera or greenfoot, I. calamistrata, I can get to, though there are a few so similar it appears a tough call ..................... .
Very pointy dark scales, dark scaly stipe too but underlying creamish, plus white gills with browning at edges is confusing me (just brown spores?), adnexed ish, no spore print sadly.
A bit of a funny smell, but really just mushroomy, mmhh......?
Any help from Inocybe etc experts very welcome!
Cheers

I think you just might have a Lepiota sp. One of those with the pyrimidical warts on the cap. The Echinoderm Lepiota's. Not sure about those gill edges though. How about Pluteus umbrosus, bit more like it. Habitat also.
