I don't really know where to start with fungi ID and never took notice until I joined here so will have to post on here for now, any tips (good beginner books?) or where to start,do certain species have a certain plant affiliation? I guess its shear experience eh?
1.Growing on English Oak Quercus rober  
2.Growing on a Alder Alnus glutinosa

the top two are not at a typical ID'ing stage so I doubt any book would be of much help
top one could be a young Ganoderma and next one young Trametes gibbosa; third down is possibly Marasmius oreades but rather too shrivelled to identify from a photo alone, bottom one is an Agaricus species that the maggots found before you did . . . .

Thanks for the info, I will keep my eye on the first two species and see how they develop as they are from a place I normally visit regularly. |

I think maze like gills make the second Daedalea quercina.
