| | | Todays finds and few IDs if poss Had a nice walk out today and lost a few hours to fungi spotting
Saw what i think to be as follows any tips or corrections gladly taken
First up what I think is a panther or Amanita pantherina
Next up couple of Boletus edulis
Saw what i think to be some Cantharellus cibarius growng near the edge of a footpath in what is predominantly pine wood.
Saw these fantastic strange fungi growing on some old decaying fungi again near the path in grass
Next up a couple of pics of what i believe to be some type of Russula
a few Phallus impudicus and eggs
Finally something which was quite special to me an unknown poking through
It really is quite addictive this fungi spotting lost about 4-5 hours in my own world wandering GREAT |

probably A. parasitica but examination of the chlamydospores would make for a safe ID

| | | Re: Todays finds and few IDs if poss The first is Amanita spissa I would think!
Nice couple of B. edulis and A. muscaria too!
Third is a lovely Chanterelle!

| | | Re: Todays finds and few IDs if poss hoolabloom,
when we walk the dogs in the morning, we used to take one-and-a-half hours; now, it's at least two hours, and more. Especially after fresh rain.
We south-easterners haven't had it so wet as elsewhere, so, there's something new popping up every time!
the 5th row seems to be on birch leaves; if it is, it looks like 'The Sickener', russula emitica; if it's on beech leaves, then I would think it is 'Beechwood Sickener', russula mairei, see below:

Both R. Emetica and R. Marei are quite a bright red, not dark red/purple so I think for that reason we can discount those |

I am happy to be corrected, my knowledge of fungi is limited.
My books show that R. Emetica and R. Marei are red to dark red in colour; I didn't take my photo, so I didn't see them 'in the flesh'. Perhaps I identified the fungi in my photo incorrectly.
Unfortunately Compact digital cameras have a tendancy to 'wash out' some colours. We have found that stopping the exposure down a couple of points helps.
Life's all a learning curve. Ron. |

Life's all a learning curve. Ron. | It's sort of a hard red to explain in text! Well it's almost a transparent red, more pinky-red in my experience. I've never knowingly seen them wine red colour, though I may be completely wrong!
I agree with you re: cameras, and all of them do it! |

| | | Re: Todays finds and few IDs if poss The russula was quite definately more purple than red and there where a lot of R emitica around to compare against. It had fairly white gills and slight red tinge to stem. I want to say its a Russula cyanoxantha but quite new to this and not 100%
Thanks guys as always very helpful |

Looks like you're due to become a member of the Russula Stomping club! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
