| | | Local Fungi Walk Hello everybody
I had a short walk around some old waste land in Leigh,Lancashire on sunday.
The area has a mix of oak, birch and alder anda all where to be found next to all of these Fungi i found.
Just wondered if you can you help me get some +ID's
So we have some idea of what can be found in Leigh.
my ideas are :-
DSCN3264 - Orange Birch Bolete
DSCN3255 - A young Brittlegill of some sort, i say young as i know them to grow much bigger in the place i found this one.
DSCN3252 - Milk Caps of some sort , i did notice that they did not smell very much like 'mushroom' , they had a hint of aniseed about them ?
DSCN3245 -These chaps are very , very small, only a few mm in size. They where near some boletes and between oak and birch.
DSCN3243 - a birch brown bolete |

First and last are correct. Your Milk caps are in fact Paxillus involutus

DSCN3243 - a birch brown bolete | these look very like a true Collybia species (as opposed to maculata, dryophila, butyracea, peronata , fusipes etc.)
you need to see their manner of growth - I'm posting something re these tomorrow - will link to it
cheers
Chris

Nick | thanks nick
Paxillus involutus for my milk caps ?
YUK that means the area is riddled with these 'brown roll rims'
i had no idea they (brown roll rims) could differ so much in apperance, than the other roll rims i thought i had an ID for. |

Chris | Thanks chris
I found a good few clumps of them and can get more pictures or details of them if you like??
I will be out again for the next few sundays in the same area so can quickly get shots/data. Thats assuming they dont change much in 7 days |

Thats assuming they dont change much in 7 days | ahh on just a quick search with google i notice that the black bit they are growing on could well be the 'habitat on blackened mushroom remains'. At the time i did wonder what it was and that one of the reasons i took the shot.
I guess the remains are possiably one of the birch brown boltetes found close by. ?
Very Very interesting..
thanks |

The last one is a Leccinum, definitely, but without cutting the stem to see how the flesh changes colour, and then possibly/probably resorting to microscopy I'd personally be reluctant to put a species name to it. They are a tricky group.

| | | Re: Local Fungi Walk Have you been conducting studies on Leccinum over the past few weeks Melanie? You're all of a sudden extremely cautious with them | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
