these stain red/browny when cut so we think we have ruled out m procera out of the equation,nick thinks that they are not c rhacodes,solus pretty sure they are not m konradii as the shape of the cap (photosaki) isn't pointed, very rounded,??? |

| | | Re: shaggy parasols?id please? They may well just be a set of atypical Chlorophyllum rhacodes, just with that cap I was unsure. I'd expect a Shaggy Parasol to look something more like this;
I think there's a variation called Chlorophyllum rhacodes var. bohemica, but I know little to nothing about it |

| | | Re: shaggy parasols?id please? Have a look at the US "varieties" down the bottom of that page. Now they don't really add up either, from what I have been led to believe about this species. But they have made it into Rogers. And just on for sheer size alone I'd rule out the others. Looks like the cap is over 25 cm on that image.
But I'm no expert. This is just a guess.
Rogers has a fantastic ID tool. I was trying to weigh up your "this is not a Wrinkled Peach" thread once, Nick. It lead me straight to the answer, but at the time, the pictures didn't look the same. When the answer was given, it was a "smack my head" moment. That site is set to get better now they are showing people's shots taken from around the globe.

Like I say, I know very little. I was mainly going on size, which is still a puzzle.
It's a very interesting fungus, jeanette! I will watch this thread with interest.

It might be worth asking around as to what info you'll need to send it though, as they'll probably need every iota of detail before they even touch it
I'm moving slowly forward to thinking that it's Chlorophyllum rhacodes var bohemica |

It is also supposed to have a large marginate bulb at the base which I find varies between collections. Habitats tend to be different between the two, with the latter prefering pine and the former on rich humus soil and compost heaps This one a few groups of fungi that have actually been seperated by DNA testing.
