| | | Another large fungi from today and some others 1.Can anyone id this species ,it was large 100mm cap although i found another more like 200mm.The stipe was probably 100-125mm or more tall and at least 30mm thick. No gills.
2.These were 60mm caps but some were 120mm and seem to lose the circular shape when large. Many in broadleaved wood.hornbeam,beech.
3.in mixed woodland 60mm caps .I think they had a ring on the stipe and a pinkish tint to stipe and cap.Could these be the blusher ?

Your first is Leccinum, probably L. scabrum.
Second is certainly Lactarius- I'd suggest L. blennius but they're not 'green' enough.
The last you're correct with. These are indeed Amanita rubescens.

| | | Re: Another large fungi from today and some others Thanks nick, the lactarius were all the same greyish colour , even the larger ones and there were many scattered in quite a large area of woodland floor.None were greenish .I have tried to do a spore print for the first time today and although most have worked, this one has not showed anything in 6 hours,i will check again tomorrow in case anything shows. |

| | | Re: Another large fungi from today and some others Well if you're brave enough, cut the gills to first see if the specimen has enough milk to physically exude a droplet. If so, pop a tad on your finger and then dab it on your tongue- it's totally up to you but let me clarify that this will not do you any harm. Just don't swallow and wash your mouth out afterwards.
Report back, if you do it |

| | | Re: Another large fungi from today and some others I'm not aware of any that don't do a spore drop- even the Boletes do. I can't seeing them survive evolution without that function
Ok, if you're not brave enough, get a drop of milk on a white cloth and see if the colour changes over time. The milk of Lactarius is a very helpful piece of identifying info! |
