This enormous fungi has been getting larger and larger in my garden for the last week.
It is very Large. Very low growing (5cm to bottom of cap) but 20cm width cap, which is brown and scaly. Gills dark brown. Stem scaly with long white shaggy ring. Cap started off very closed, now opened out (almost flat).
It is on a patch of ground where we have just taken out a very large coniferous hedge. About 20ft away are mature oak, beech and Scots pine and meadow grassland.
I hope someone can help me to ID this. I was wondering if it could be a short Agaricus moelleri or even Agaricus vaporarius?
Many thanks. Jane
