No wonder I find this so confusing. 9 out of 10 of my "googled" photos show a veined surface. I'll attach another photo taken from above.

When immature, the species doesn't always exhibit the classic wrinkly surface. It's the first shot that made me think R. palmatus, seeing the gills and stipe. I'm going to stick to my guns here Though, looking forward to other suggestions

My little book on fungi does say that the cap is often ear-shaped and the largest one does fit that description
