| | | Fungi identify please Over the last few evenings I have past by a solitary fungi. First it appeared as a shot white column. Next it developed into a tall narrow hood. And then this evening it was as though the hood/cap had rolled itself up. A very straight tall, thin stem had been revealed topped with a flatish cap with a black sticky rim. I've never seen anything quite like it. Wondered whether anyone might know the variety. I have a photo but it seems I am not allowed to upload into the thread. Any ideas?

You should be able to load your photo into the image library. Then when you start a thread there is a box on your right which says library images, you click on this and then click on the image you want to include in your thread.
Hope this helps. |

| | | Re: Fungi identify please Before Mr Pedant (Chris ) sees this - if there's only one of 'em it's a fungus.
It sounds from the description as if it might be a Shaggy Ink Cap Coprinus comatus but best to wait until you post the photo!

if it isn't Coprinus comatus I'd be astonished
Chris PS on a (slightly) more serious note I suspect that the forum title of "Fungi Forums" - in the plural, not Fung us - might be confusing newcomers to the site . . . there is a Reptile and Amphibian Forum a Mammal Forum etc.; then again with Wildflowers, Plants & Tree Forums the botanists are having it both ways! - OK, and here I could get really pedantic - aren't trees plants and flowers anyway? why make the distinction
whatever! I'll get mi coat . . . .

| | | Re: Fungi identify please It's what Solus suggested indeed, Coprinus comatus, proves that you're skilled in describing things well
As for the forum thing Chris, it's been mentioned before, but I expect it was put on the backburner |
