Was obviously being a bit flaky last weekend as I failed to poke and prod this one or to look underneath. 
I have a funny feeling it might be a Fistulina but the colour seems a bit too yellow, I think it must have been growing out of the logs at the head of the culvert.

Don't quote me on this but it looks a bit like photos I've seen of Velvet Rollrim - Paxillus atrotomentosus
Did you see any of the stipe at all? (If so was it velvety).

Now absolutely kicking myself for not taking a closer look because Paxillus is one I'd really like to find.

Though it is now known as Tapinella atrotomentosa. Much nicer looking than the Brown Rollrim.

Laura | Was this fruiting from Conifer wood? As from the picture this could quite easily be Paxillus involutus. Paxillis atromentosus is a conifer associate.
