Strange puffball?
Picked these in pine woods - thought they were puffballs on first look, because of the perfect round shape. THey were kind of hiding underground and had to dig them out tho, and all my previous puffball harvests were from open fields before.
Cutting them in half they look weird - strange jelly like outside surrounding a dark grey middle bit. So what are these?

Also, I am a newbie to picking, and any tips on good spots near Cambridge would be apprecieted...

What you have found are not puffballs at all but are the egg stages of one of the stinkhorn species, probably Phallus impudicus.
