| | | Idenitifcation - Cep and possible Amanita? Hi, folks.
Two for help with identification, please.
1. Photographed growing under beech/pine/birch/oak at Caesar's Camp, Bracknell. Think it's Boletus edulis Cep, but not 100% sure.
2. Photographed growing in mown grass path in market garden in Englefield, near Reading. I'm guessing Amanita sp but doesn't look quite right... My initial thought was Agaricus of some sort until I saw the gills were white in the mature specimens too.
Thanks for any help. |

I would say that the first one was as near a text book photo of B.edulis you could get. It shows the raised white reticulation on the stipe very well
The second one does not appear to have any remains of a volva at the base of the stem ( a volva is the lower part of the universal veil and is only present in Amanita and Volvariella), so I do not think it is an Amanita. Also the gills appear to be turning pink, Did they carry on and turn chocolate brown? If they did it is an Agaricus.

Yes I think you are right. At first I thought about Leucoagaricus, but the specimen with the pink gills put me off, as I though it was going to develope brown spores, however in FOS they say that the gills of L. leucthites do often turn pink when old.

I did wonder about number 2 being some kind of parasol mushroom, as the lack of a volva at the base of the stem seemed to point away from Amanita. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
