This was the least damaged specimen I could find.

I should use the proper names anyway, but my book is so out of date I'm afraid of getting it wrong.

They'll only politely point you in the right direction. Mycological nomenclature is forever changing, twisting and adapting, species hop families and are dumped in sub genuses...

| | | Re: Might this have been one of the Birch Boletes? But was there any blue/green staining at the base of the stipe? Difficult to tell if the blue at the base is just a shadow or staining. It it is blue-green staining then it isn't Leccinum scabrum but another Leccinum.
