| | | Bracket with yellow fringe I'm a bit stumped with this one - strange really as I thought it was so distinctive, I'd have no trouble getting an ID from the books when I got home. .
In fact, being so distinctive I didn't bother getting much in the way of information in the field - amateur mistake , but the bracket was 7" across. Didn't notice any smell, but that's not to say it didn't have one.
Are those teeth on the underside, or just long maze-like gills?
I am thinking now that this may have acquired some sort of secondary infection causing the yellowing
Or is this new to science....
Any help appreciated as always.
J.

| | | Re: Bracket with yellow fringe Ooh, I came across a much older and tattier version - or at least it looks very similar from what I remember - yesterday at Stowe Gardens, in a big patch of rough grass and stump remains where a tree had at some stage been cut to ground level. Mine had a velvety edge.
I can't put my photos on the PC for comparason yet as my hard drive card reader seems to have packed up.

| | | Re: Bracket with yellow fringe Thanks for the info Mal & David - the Phaeolus is growing just near my Amanita phalloides patch and I pop up there occasionally wanting to get some photos - haven't managed it yet, but will check the log it is growing on next time I'm up there - the checklist says it is often found on wood decayed by Phaeolus, and as this one is growing from the log there is just a chance...
Cheers,
J.
