| | | Boletus impolitus? Found a patch of these today. Didn't know what it was and now feel pretty bad because I think its B. impolitus which the Gallery and Wiki says are rare and shouldn't be picked.
On cutting it didn't change colour, no blue. Top of stem yellow. On cutting "there was yellow above the tubes and inside the skin of the stipe" - (Flaxton's words from another thread). And the smell is what I would call iodine, yuk.
So I guess I'm after confirmation that they are B. impolitus please. Thanks. |

I think B. impolitus is what you have there. Was there a little red toward the base of the stem? Were they fruiting close to Oak?

Andy | Hi Andy, yes they were a little red at the base of the stem and they were growing under oak. They are a bit pongy. What would you do with them? I only took the two. |

I only took the two. | Now that you have picked them, well, if they are way past either drying or eating I would drop them back at the Oak from which they came and let them rot down there. They are occasional and widespread south of Yorkshire, so not that rare but worth looking out for.

Andy | Thanks for your advice Andy, I'll try to drop them back where I got them. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
