not pholiota squarrosa???



Good evening all. found these growing on a silver birch stump which last year was covered in xylaria hypoxylon. I have had the luxury to study them over the last 5 days. At first I thought they were pholiota squarrosa but wasnt too sure as the stems didnt appear to be shaggy enough now they have developed its prety obvious but what are they. Hope you can see where us newbys get confused!!!
