| | | The Ceps are back! (I think) I took a walk this morning to see what the rains have brought to fruition in the fungi world and I found what I believe are Boletus Edulis. I've never seen so many before so had to be quite restrained. I picked a dozen which I have added pictures of below.
Confirmation of my suspicions of them being ceps would however be nice.
Location : Deciduous woods, birch, oak and beech growing on a grassy pathway.
Elder specimens have yellowing pores.
These last two photo's I think could be Boletus badius. |

| | | Re: The Ceps are back! (I think) Sorry, posted in the wrong place. I think they're all ceps, bar the one on the bottom-right of the scales. Not so sure about that one. B. edulis is a very variable species and could look like this, but it could also be another species of Boletus. You'd need to check other characteristics.
The one you thought might be a Bay would turn blue when cut if it was. Again, is likely just an older Cep, though the stem is a bit on the thin side.
Where were you picking? Obviously not expecting exact location, but, for e.g. which region or forest? Quote:

| | | Re: The Ceps are back! (I think) All of them were found at woodland very near Camberley in Surrey. I had actually gone with the intention of looking for some hedgehog mushrooms. Instead I got Ceps and a nice wod of Oyster mushrooms.
And some of the Ceps are going to be in that Le Crueset pot later, the rest are going in the biltong dryer for later use. |

| | | Re: The Ceps are back! (I think) The trade sounds like a tempting offer I must say. I used to have a really good chanterelle site in Silchester. Sadley I've not seen them there for at least two years now. I'll definately consider trading, let me think about it... |

| | | Re: The Ceps are back! (I think) Oh and the last time I went there was about 7am on a weekday morning and there was some nutter rolling around naked in the ferns (seriously I kid you not). I suspect he'd been indulging in something he probably shouldn't have, perhaps a fly agaric? |

Wouldn't it be ironic if we were both going to the same place? | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
