Bolete ID

I found three of these on grassland near an old Oak tree.

Cap was like felt or suede, the underside was a deep ochre colour,

Any ideas what type of Bolete this is, I was thinking of Bay Bolete?

Hello Nick,

Definetely not X. Badius, i'm afraid. I think you have in there Boletus Impolitus - If you cut it in half the flesh does not change into any color, the flesh should be yellow also. Basically the whole Boletus is yellow except the cup that is brown-olive.

Thanks for the Id Julio, I did bring one home and like you state, no colour change when cut in half.

Boletus impolitus is characterised by a stout and often bulbous yellowish stem. When it is cut in half it should show very pale yellow flesh with a brighter line above the tubes and inside the stipe cuticle. I should also smell of iodine.
