| | | Dasyscyphus virgineus for Confirmation I got this down to Dasyscyphus virgineus but having only access to limited literature on these type of things (Fungi of Switzerland and Ellis and Ellis) I thought I'd just check that there isn't anything else it could be:
Thanks

| | | Re: Dasyscyphus virgineus for Confirmation looks OK Rob
what's it on? beech mast? that is a typical substrate for Lachnum virgineum
features include:
no crystals on the hairs which are generally cylindrical, but may be a little swollen at their apices . . .
the paraphyses, which are lanceolate - up to 5µm wide - and project well beyond the asci (I know that's a feature of "Dasyscyphus" in general, but but is very noticeable in this species)
cheers
Chris

Chris | Made a note of the corrected name - thanks Chris.
Paraphyses certainly seem to fit:
but the hairs did seem to have a few crystals on them and all were distinctly swollen:
It was growing on beech mast.

| | | Re: Dasyscyphus virgineus for Confirmation I think that's OK - paraphyses spot on (though a touch redder than we get them in this part of Yorkshire )
and I don't think those count as crystals at all - just gunk! Lachnum brevipilosum (= Dasyscyphus brevipilus) is also white, but has filiform to very narrowly lanceolate paraphyses)
