| | | 15mm unidentified mushroom Good morning all (just)
I found this large solitary mushroom yesterday. I've not yet dissected it, but the spores are a pale brown/creamy colour.
It was beside a track in mixed woodland. I've tried to post two images of this (11+ounze) baby, but it won't work. I'll add another image below.
Could anyone please identify it for me. I have 8 (yes, 8 - for all the good it does me) mushroom/fungus books and I've failed. Yet again.
Please help |

| | | Re: 15mm unidentified mushroom Hmm, I'm not too good with Boletes that aren't too common. My first thoughts were of B. aereus but I'm not sure. |

| | | Re: 15mm unidentified mushroom Indeed Nick. It looks like B.aereus or B. Pinicola but I would go for Aereus.
I would change the title...15mm == 1.5 cm and this Boletus sp. looks like much bigger...

| | | Re: 15mm unidentified mushroom thank you both - I'm going to have another look-up in those pesky books now.
I'd realised I'd made a HUGE mistake with the size - but it was too late to rectify. I thought someone just might notice my little mistake when they saw the pics.
thanks again |

| | | Re: 15mm unidentified mushroom I have a funny feeling that it might be a rather 'past it' Cep - I think I can see a pale net on the top of the stem - or is my eyesight failing (like the rest of me?!!)

| | | Re: 15mm unidentified mushroom Thank you Pam - whatever it is, and whatever the books say about the deliciousness of this specimen, I don't think we'll be eating it !!
I wish I had a few experts in my pocket on my rambles. |

I wish I had a few experts in my pocket on my rambles. | Hi Lemars - Its Pauline btw - don't worry you're not the first person to speed read PMG as Pam! And no I wouldn't be eating either - if it is a cep its way past its best - I think they are meant too be eaten as 'buttons' or at least even when a large size - still tight and creamy looking - not when the pores have gone dingy!!

| | | Re: 15mm unidentified mushroom Sorry Pauline (I'll try not to get this wrong in future, because I know it's important !!)
I only just noticed this post, so sorry for the delay in replying. I'm going to go with the majority vote and assume it's a boletus aereus. I didn't eat it either. The only shrooms I eat are field mushrooms and last year we had a taste of Agaricus Arvensis. There was also a tentative taste of Pine Boletes which were plentiful.
I'd normally never touch any others.
Thank you for your reply - and I'll try to get your name right in future !! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
