| | | A good day for Boletus Badius Walking the dog becomes a lot more enjoyable at this time of year where every day something new seems to pop its head out of the ground!
I found a patch of Bay Boletes last week and having gone back to the same bit of woodland today (mixed birch, beech, oak and hazel) I couldn't believe how many more had shot up. Has this been happening all over the country or just in the South East?
As we had torrential rain last night, a lot of them were a bit soggy, but come the dry weather I'll be right back over there!
Here are some pictures but unfortunately they don't give anywhere near enough of an indication of just how heaving the slope was. |

I had much the same experience this morning with Boletes. It is a very good moment for these at present, but we don't really need too much more rain as they will rot in the ground. Russula species are doing much the same in fruting in large numbers all over the place. We should be in for a good autumn.

| | | Re: A good day for Boletus Badius Let's hope so Andy. August is boding very well for the forthcoming months.
Out of interest, was it Boletus badius you've been finding or some other Boletes? The same woodland has a large amount of both red and yellow cracked boletes as well as a fair few other varieties.
Incidentally, I have been finding a lot of russulas too, especially Charcoal Burners.
I hear what you're saying about the rain, but I don't think we should wish for it to ease up too much!
All the best. |

| | | Re: A good day for Boletus Badius Some nice pictures, and yes I have seen plenty of boletus over my way on the south downs, not 100% on the ID's but I think mostly b.luridus and b. luridiformis, b.chrysenteron and today tylopilus felleus......
keep the rain coming I say.....
