| | calling fungus enthusiasts in Yorkshire hello all
the Yorkshire Naturalists' Union Autumn Fungus Foray will be taking place over the weekend of the 10th to 13th September, based in the general Huddersfield/Wakefield area
it is intended that there will be a strong teaching element to the weekend, with the opportunity for the beginner, and those who already "know a bit" to see identification techniques - including microscopy - in action
it is not intended that this be purely an opportunity for those whose only interest is in fungi-for-the-table
how this weekend pans out is largely dependent upon participant response
although we are (naturally) rather chauvinistic in Yorkshire, if potential participants from other parts of the country (mainly the North!) are interested, they will not be turned away ; you don't even have to be a member of the YNU
if you are interested in joining in then post that interest here and we will take it from there
cheers
Chris

| | | Re: calling fungus enthusiasts in Yorkshire I'll let the two near here who are keen on learning the microscopy side of things know about it. If you can email me the details I'll email them on to them. Not sure what my plans are yet.

| | | Re: calling fungus enthusiasts in Yorkshire I am very much up for something like this. I'm at the top of Derbyshire but am, and will be, working in Hull that week and I think Huddersfield is one of my stops on the way back to Manchester. I've just got to think of an excuse to give to my friends back home who will think I'm very much a weirdo for wanting to 'give up' my weekend to go on a fungus foray...
I'd be able to do Saturday and Sunday and possibly (but probably not) Monday depending on whether the job I'm on has finished by then.
How many people usually turn up to this event? |

| | | Re: calling fungus enthusiasts in Yorkshire So which day is going to be the unimproved grassland day? I've got withdrawal symptoms, which 2 days in Northumberland in the dunes and an upland valley wasn't enough to satisfy . (Though by the time I've worked my way through all the Entoloma I found I might be on Entoloma overload . And there are Entoloma popping up in my lawn too, to add to the pile. Plus some pale ones in the forest that I ignored today.)

Melanie | I'm planning a visit on the Monday (13th September - a fortnight today) to the Chew Valley in Saddleworth; apart from a couple of visits from me over the last few years (and Diggleken's work) it's largely unworked - this is the general area: Get-a-map from Ordnance Survey
a mixture of upland acidic unimproved grassland, with marshy areas and mature coniferous woodland, close to a reservoir - does it remind you of anywhere?
I'll send you an email with further details - anyone else interested PM me
cheers
Chris

| | | Re: calling fungus enthusiasts in Yorkshire Chris, as you know, I cant go, but I'll send you an e-mail with some helpful details - You will need to devote all day to the trip, there are an awful lot of different micro sites there, as I suspect you know, but some you may not.
cheers
