| | | Giant Mushroom ID Don't think I've never taken a shot of a Mushroom before but this one was around 8 inch in diameter so I couldn't resist.
I imagine it is a failry common species. Could someone tell me what it is please? It was taken in a wood near Wakefield in West Yorkshire.

You have here a species of Macrolepiota, It is what I would have called M.rhacodes but there are now some very similar species recognized which look very similar.

Must admit I was hoping that it would be called something easy like "Dustbin Lid" Mushroom but every cloud has a silver lining. I can now put the picture on my blog and appear very authoritative by quoting your description
