Hi guys
Found this today in mixed woodland mainly conifers and silver birch, growing in moss, does any one have any ideas what it is

| | | Re: fungi with spines any ideas? Wouldn't swear to it but could be a Wood Hedgehog - Hydnum repandum thats seen better days, not one I have seen in the field so can't be more positive.

Yes I agree with Gerry although I think it's the variety rufescens..
It certainly has had a hard life!

There were a lot of wood hedgehog fungi about. I think Bish is right does look a bit simular to Hydnum rufescens.

I'm trying to get rid of my reputation as a mycophagist.
Having said that hedgehogs are quite nice when they're small but I wouldn't have touched yours

Youre right bish wood hedgehog mushrooms do taste good though I'd be pretty desperate before id eat this one.
