Peter, have you ever found atypical G. marginata with a more rough stipe or K. mutabilis with smooth stipe that ended up needing a microscope to be certain of species or is this something that has never happened to you?

All the Kuehneromyces I have seen have had a 'Shaggy' stipe below the ring.

Galerina marinata is more variable it often has loose fibres in a snake-skin like pattern (as in many Galerina's) but these can be rubbed off and they do not recurve outward as with Kuehneromyces.

I find this pretty fascinating. Also I really like you're K. mutabilis photo; the way the gills are shaped down to the ring looks bizarre but pretty cool.
