Found these today.
Both lots growing directly from rotted wood, within a deciduous woodland gully (excess water run-off).
There are only a couple of
Peziza's shown in the general field guides which grow directly from wood, so thought I'd chance an attempt at people's ID thoughts. (In case they might just be identifiable without microscopy).
No.1
Largest cup approx 5cm wide. more or less direct attachment without a disitinct stem as such. smooth interior surface, granular exterior: -
No.2
Largest cup approx 25mm wide. These had a definite stem, as can be seen in the small one towards front.
Again smooth interior surface, but somewhat less grainy on exterior than the other example: -
Current thinking along the lines of
Pezizia varia and
Peziza micropus.
Any thoughts, ID's, opinions, much appreciated.
