Unidentified Fungi

This was seen at the edge of a conifer woodland near to a reservoir in Weardale, County Durham. It has been nibbled by some hungry creature. I have no idea what it is. Can anyone help?

Hullo,

I'm afraid that without a clearer image and more angles i.e: Underside, stipe, gills, etc, you'll not get much at all. Luckily, the top is quite classic Russula species, but that's as far as you'll get I reckon!

Thanks Nick. It's my first ever photo of fungi. Now I have a better idea what's needed, I'll try harder for my future photos. At least I know the species, which is a good start. thanks again.

do read John's excellent Help us to help you identify fungi

and, actually you don't know the species, but the genus is indeed Russula (unfortunately there are over 140 species of Russula in the UK, and quite a lot of them look rather like yours)

do keep at it though
