By coincidence I found a fungus on one of my usual paths two days ago. I know that path really well, it is nearly all spruce with the occasional larch and some birch. Well I couldn't place the fungus, thought it ought to be a ringless
Suillus, but there are none associated with Spruce, and the ones under larch all have rings. So I scratched my head for a few hours.
Finally today whilst I was halfway doing a post on here for help I decided to go and double check as where it was is only a 5 minute walk away, and I had left one there, so it was easy to find. Lo and behold, one fairly small Scots Pine sapling right next to where it was. The only one on the whole length of path. I'd have sworn that there weren't any pine on there at all.

That then made it easier,
Suillus variegatus, well I think. Mine were very yellow though, yellower than the ones I've found recently elsewhere in the wood, but seem to fit microscopically.
