| | | Distinctive - But I still can't ID it! Found this today, a single specimen growing in an open soil area beside a maintained pathway, under Fagus.
Cap width approx. 90mm, stipe height approx.80mm overall.
Stipe very "barrel" shaped, tapering to a blunt spike at lower end.
No particularly unusual smell.
Any help towards ID much appreciated as usual. |

Rusty Brown spores says Cortinarius to me, but don't ask me for a species they are far too dificult.

I thought it might possibly be a Cortinarius, but wasn't confident enough to say so
Regards,
Mike. |

I'll be giving these Corts some extra work this season I hope! |

However, all may not be lost, should you become such long-term partners or get to the breaking up stage they can become the perfect reason for escape .... (Ever wondered why most of the keen mycologists have already got grey hairs?) Some take up fishing instead though. Others knitting. Some just get out their slippers and knitted cardies.
