Found this rather nice looking, small (c20mm diameter)
Cortinarius species growing in
Sphagnum underneath Birch-
I think it's one of the section
Telamonia species but that's as far as I've taken it so far. In trying to photograph the diagnostic features I spotted that some of the gills looked as if they had been a lilac sort of colour when they were young so I got a close up of these areas.
It was only when I had downloaded it onto the computer that I noticed that one of the lilac patches seemed to have a structure to it and at "view pixel" scale it seems like it is some sort of insect or woodlouse or something similar. The match in colour would have been perfect when the gills were lilac - it stands out a little bit more now (especially as I've drawn a red arrow pointing at it

). You'll probably need to view it a full size to spot the thing.
Has anyone ever come across anything in the literature which might give a clue as to what it was. I've searched the gills under low power magnification and can't spot the critter now unfortunately.
Any hints as to likely species for the fungus would be appreciated also.
Thanks.
PS The more I look at it the more I think it must be a springtail.
