| | | Fungi Gallery sub divisions Hi fungi hunters
What a great season this has been ... and still is!
The Gallery is now getting quit populated with some excellent fungi images (1,476 images in the Gallery plus many in the unidentified area).
Well done to all who have made this Gallery such a useful resource.
It seems sensible now to divide the Gallery into sub-divisions / genus. I'm looking at a similar format used by "Rogers Mushrooms" but I would really appreciate other peoples thoughts and ideas.
What do you think?

Sounds like a fantastic idea John. I am forever looking for photos that I can never remember which page they are on. I would also like to thank the many mushroom lovers and contributors for adding photographs to the Gallery. They have certainly helped me in situations when I have needed identification and also to observe due to my fascination with the myco- world. The standards of photography are phenominal throughout the Gallery. So thanks again for making this a website that I visit daily and never ceases to amaze me

| | | Re: Fungi Gallery sub divisions Sounds good to me - plenty hard work poss? It is a fantastic resource. I always smile when anyone asks which mushroom guide to buy then after a few years everyone realises that dozens of pics of various ages sizes and stages still wouldn't be enough - there's always room for another angle, another view!! I hope we all keep them coming. . . its scarlet elf cup next on the horizon folks - eyes skinned!!!!
I'm glad some folk had a good year - its was rather poor here in the northwest and even poorer down south from what I saw (unless it picked up really late on?) Shots seemed to be coming from the south east and eastern sides of the country. Funny but I'm even more convinced now that fungi are very weather dependent and its not as easy to guess at when and why as I used to think. I was so sure that the hot spell followed by a very wet August here in the northwest would have produced a fantastic season - and it didn't - that thought will keep me on my toes for next autumn to be sure!!!

Its a novel idea but to be honest I just can't envisage what benefits it would provide and how I would use it. If I suspect the unknown fungi I am looking for is for example a Mycena I just type Mycena in the search facility and see what pops up.
On the other hand I suppose if the Gallery were arranged into groups with an index i.e. Agaricales, Boletacea, Polyporals etc it would bring up a broader range of genus for cross reference which would be an advantage.
Certainly an index with links to genus would save on the typing and not to complex or difficult to set up so I believe.
I can also see advantages on having a 'Unidentified Fungi' Gallery in its own right. Being included in a general unidentified Gallery as is the case now they just dont seem to attract many viewers and input.
Will keep an open mind on this one.

Many thanks for all your valued comments. I'll put some ideas / thoughts out over the new year when I should have more time. I would like to see the unidentified fungi in their own area (but not too many ). I'll also update the fungi list in the reference section.
If you don't hear from me in the next few days ... don't think I've done a runner my Home pc's motherboard was fried last night Fortunately all my data is OK .. so I may be offline for a while whilst I rebuild.
