| | | orange pored bolete query
I was out in Northumberland yesterday and found this orange pored bolete with a distinct reticulated stem under beech. I had thought Boletus luridus but don't get the red line between the cap and the tubes (see the patch with tubes removed on last photo). However, the cutting was 24h after collection. Does this make a difference? Else what else can it be? (cap diam. 87mm).
Grateful for any help. |

| | | Re: orange pored bolete query hi
this is indeed B. luridus - as the specimen is old and attacked by maggots you often find that colour changes and other features are not so obvious or are absent
cheers
Chris
PS I recently posted something referring to B. luridus - see: When is a tree not a tree?

| | | Re: orange pored bolete query Thanks very much Chris, that's really helpful and reassuring. I had been thrown by a previous comment on this forum "If there is no red line then you can rule out species luridus." It's great to be able to get an experienced and expert view. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
