fungi on tree trunk to ID please
Found this on a living old, I think, beech. No idea what it is. My nearest guess is Daldinia but surely not on a living tree? And I can't find any picture of anything similar clumped like this. There were several groupings in the ridges of the trunk. The first picture dimensions are about 100mm across x 200mm top to bottom. Very hard, even when I tried (and failed) to slice some off.
