| | | Just a spiny Amanita rubescens? Is this just a spiny Amanita rubescens? I thought at first it was a Lycoperdon but was surprised when I picked it and found a proper stem and partial veil underneath. It has signs of reddening where the cap and stem have been eaten by something. And apologies for the photos, it was evening, on one side a dense coniferous plantation, and a thunder cloud overhead ...
It was in a path, closest tree was Crataegus, a bit further away was pine. Smell slightly aromatic. I've not done any further investigations yet.

| | | Re: Just a spiny Amanita rubescens? After it had rolled around in my collecting tub the spines had worn down and the veil split to show the gills and it is unmistakeably A rubescens.
